Joanna Guzzetta’s passion for container gardening inspired her to found Four Seasons Container Gardens in 2006. Specializing in custom container garden design and installation, Guzzetta soon found herself frustrated by a common problem for gardeners and nurseries alike:
…What filler works best in large or heavy planters?
Conventionally, people have used all sorts of fillers (nursery pots, packing peanuts, plastic bottles) to cut down on the amount of soil needed.

Guzzetta had some issues with these conventional fillers.

First, she knew they didn’t provide adequate water drainage, which is crucial for plant health. Second, she couldn’t guarantee that these filler materials weren’t leaching any toxins into the soil…

“this was an especially important point
for our clients who wanted to grow
vegetables in containers”

Guzzetta was committed to creating a quality product that was good for the plants, the environment, and the local economy. The packing pearls are made from 35 percent recycled polystyrene and can be reused from pot to pot or recycled. All components are manufactured in the U.S.A.

Edwards Enterprises, Inc., a division of a local non-profit that employs Oregonians with disabilities, assembles the kits in Portland.
